Applying to Graduate School can be quite confusing. Which schools should I apply to? What writing sample should I use? What classes should I be taking now to prepare for graduate school? How can I afford graduate school? What in the world is a Statement of Purpose? The workshop will demystify the application process and help students choose the degrees and programs which match their long-term goals. This 1-day workshop is to help students at the University of California - Santa Barbara who are considering applying to graduate school (MA or PhD program) to think critically about the application process and market themselves to graduate school application committees in ways that showcase their unique qualities.

This workshop seeks to improve students understanding of the following:

  1.  What does it mean to pursue a graduate degree?

  2. Why do people choose to earn graduate degrees?

  3. What are the components of the graduate application and how do they fit together?
