The Center for Black Studies presents: Dr. Idethia Harvey and "Diabetes Is Just A Struggle": Stress and Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management Behaviors Among African Americans

Proper Type-2 diabetes (T2DM) management behaviors are crucial to an individual's overall health but often present a challenge for rural and micropolitan (R/M) African Americans. Stress has been implicated as a critical contributor to poor health outcomes related to T2DM; however, few studies have examined how R/M African Americans describe how stress, coping, and self-management behaviors are associated with this population. Using the Environmental Affordances Model (EAM) framework, the study examined the role of stress among R/M African Americans with T2DM.
