“A Sonic Coup: The Military Touch that Deposed Mugabe,” which will be the penultimate and first of two new chapters in this book. The deposition of Mugabe lifted a huge weight off the shoulders of many Zimbabweans who, for close to 40 years, felt hard-pressed to freely express themselves. Buoyed by the music of Jah Prayzah, a young, versatile musician who profiled his artistic persona as a soldier, the intra-party coup brought a surprising end to an era that my book project had fortuitously long awaited, the end of the Mugabe era.
